When the Pac-12 Network airs its first live event, a women's soccer match between local rivals Santa Clara and Stanford on Friday at 7 p.m., you would be better off standing outside Laird Q. Cagan Stadium on the Stanford campus rather than trying to watch on television.
The closest available access is in Bakersfield.
Three cable systems were signed on with the Pac-12 Networks, one national and six regional, when it debuted on Wednesday with "Pac-12 Live."
Unless you have Bright House, Cox or Time Warner, you're nowhere in the Pac-12, even though the networks' studios are in San Francisco.
Bright House covers Bakersfield, Cox covers Tucson, Phoenix, Las Vegas, San Bernardino, San Diego, Rancho Palos Verdes and Irvine, and Time Warner has your back in Barstow, Desert Cities, Los Angeles, Hawaii, El Centro, Yuma (AZ), Gunnison, Tulluride (CO) and Pullman (WA).
Stanford, the defending national champions, has two players from San Diego and one from Scottsdale, AZ. Hopefully their parents will be holding a giant block party and posting updates on the match to facebook.
Santa Clara, who has won an NCAA title and is picked to win the West Coast Conference, has five players from areas covered by the three cable systems.
DirecTV, Dish Networks, AT&T and Verizon Fios are supposedly close to signing deals.
Until then, there's always the internet. The match will be aired online on KZSU-2 and can also be followed on gametracker.
