Great Burgers a Short Drive Away

This week we offer a few local spots to satisfy that red meat craving.

A great burger does not have to be the stuff of summer barbeques only. If you’re in the mood for a giant burger but don’t want to fire up the grill, here are a few places to go to get that beefy fix.

Classic American fare greets diners at Big Red’s, and big, juicy burgers are a main attraction. Open every day except Monday, this Hazelwood Drive diner features big portions, and serves breakfast starting at 8am.

Head to this Grand Avenue eatery early in the day to enjoy a huge burger. Located right in the heart of downtown, this cozy café is open for breakfast and lunch only.

An Italian deli may not be the first place most people look for a great burger, but Lidia’s on Mission Road features Niman ranch beef for their patties. Stop in for a burger and grab some pasta on the side.

The name says it all for this local chain of burger joints. The San Bruno location features a variety of giant burgers made to order and offers local favorite Mitchell’s ice cream for dessert.

Located in a shopping center along El Camino Real in San Bruno, this popular chain keeps diners coming back with its huge burger menu, featuring favorites like the Guacamole Bacon Burger and the Bleu Ribbon Burger.

If you find yourself craving some red meat while on a day trip to San Francisco, stop in to this neighborhood classic. Bill’s Place features a full menu of gourmet “Celebrity” burgers, named after famous locals. Enjoy a Herb Caen Burger with Monterey Jack cheese or the Carol Doda, which honors the dancing legend with two side-by-side 1/3 lb. beef patties topped with an olive apiece.
