Fourth of July Deals: Flags, Pies, and Party Poppers

Our bargain shopper brings you the best finds for your Independence Day festivities.

With weathermen telling us temperatures in the high 70s are coming to South City this three-day weekend, there’s little to ask for except maybe some insight on where to get the best deals on Fourth of July treats and red, white, and blue décor.

To celebrate our nation’s Independence Day, South San Francisco stores are fully stocked with American flags, scrumptious apple pies and huge seedless watermelons for your 4th of July get-togethers. In addition, we found some party poppers for good measure.

  • Through July 4, take advantage of their sale price on a 3 X 5’ nylon U.S. flag banner kit, with stitched stars and a gold anodized eagle top and flagpole. This week it’ll run you $24.99 instead of the usual $29.99.
  • OSH has other 3’ X 5’ flags that are polycotton and complete with steel flagpoles and eagle tops, running you just $9.99 each.
  • If you just want the U.S. flag itself, you can pick up a 3’ X 5’ polycotton flag for $8.99 or a 2.5’ X 4’ nylon flag for $24.99.

Stop into on Dubuque Avenue for some more great flag options plus an unbeatable deal on charcoal.

  • Their best deal on flags this week is their Valley Forge 3’ X 5’ polycotton U.S. flag set, complete with a steel flagpole and eagle top. It’s normally priced at $9.98 but through July 4 is just $7.00.
  • If you want a larger flag, Lowe’s also has a 4’ X 6’ nylon U.S. flag with sewn stripes and embroidered stars for $29.98. This flag doesn’t come with a pole, but has brass grommets for hanging.
  • Lowe’s also has a 1.5’ X 3’ patriotic fan flags for $17.98. These are perfect for hanging over the deck at your Fourth of July BBQ.
  • Also for that BBQ, stock up on 16.6 lb. bags of Kingsford charcoal briquets. Through July 4th, they’re buy-one-get-one-free with the first one running you just $7.48.

  • Their “Let Freedom Ring” party packs come with eight large flag-decorated plates, 24 flag napkins, and eight each of red plastic forks, knives and spoons, all for just $5.00. Think about your guest list and then decide how many of these packs you need.
  • On Sunday only, stop into Safeway or Pak N Save when firework Popsicles will be just $0.99. There’s a special deal each day through July 4 so check out the weekly ad for more details on that. Friday it’s $2.77 watermelons and $5.00 16 oz. Tony Roma’s Ribs,
  • For the dessert table, pick up an all American split pie in the bakery for just $2.99 or stop in on “Five Dollar Friday” and get their artisan Boston cream cake for, you guessed it, $5.00! These are normally $9.99, and let me tell you – they are delicious!
  • Safeway also has a variety of flags this week including their 3’ X 5’ U.S. flag kit on sale for just $9.99, packs of either 1 large or 2 smaller patriotic fan flags for $24.99, and 3 packs of 12” X 18” flags for $16.99 complete with brackets to hang them outside of a window or your front door.
  • If you want some smaller hand flags, they also have 4 packs of 4” X 6” flags or 2 packs of 8” X 12” flags, each on sale for $1.99.
  • To add some party popper fun to your 4th of July celebration, look for TNT's Party Packs with smaller packs starting at $1.00 and larger variety packs running you up to $29.99.

  • Their 3’ X 5’ U.S. flags come with a 6 ft. pole, silver ball top, and bracket, all for $28.99.
  • The bakery is stocked with huge 75 oz. lattice apple pies for $8.99. You’ll also find flag decorated 9.5 lb. white sheet cakes with 2 pounds of vanilla mousse filling for $17.99. This patriotic cake will go a long way at any gathering you’re attending or hosting.

 

Best Deal: The best deal this week on an American Flag is at with their 3' X 5' polycotton U.S. flag set for $7.00. If you're closer to and strapped for time, their 3' X 5' U.S. flag set isn't much different and is still a reasonable $9.99. For Kingsford charcoal, your best deal is also at with their buy-one-get-one-free deal, making two 16.6 lb. bags just $7.48 before tax. For patriotic desserts, it's a toss-up. all American split pies are a great deal at $2.99 each, but if you're going to be feeding an army this weekend, then go with 75 oz. lattice apple pie for $8.99.
