Our local bargain hunter tracks down the best prices on cakes, pies and tarts in South San Francisco.

President’s Day weekend usually means a quick ski trip, shopping and maybe a barbecue, if we’re lucky. With the rain over head today and a little tomorrow, and a chilly high of 50 degrees both Sunday and Monday, you’ll probably decide to stay in with your friends and family. Forget the gloomy weather and make a stop at your local grocery store’s bakery to pick up a cake or pie to sweeten your three-day weekend.

At and South City’s two , be sure to check out their four-day President’s Day sale running Friday through Monday. Great prices will be available on select chips, beer, and a traditional favorite, all American split pie.

  • Eight-inch all-American split pies are on sale through Monday for just $3.49 in apple or cherry.
  • Friday only, pick up an eight-inch cherry topped Boston cream cake for just $5.00, normally $9.99. Safeway and Pak N Save also have strawberry topped or original Boston cream cakes for $9.99 this week.
