Dumbarton Bridge Closing

Crews will be making it safer for drivers in the event of an earthquake.

The Dumbarton Bridge will be closed to through traffic, starting Friday August 31 at 10 p.m.

As part of the crews will be replacing an expansion joint on the east side of the bridge.  The new one is designed to be much more flexible during an earthquake.

Cars, pedestrians, and cyclists will not be able to cross the bridge that runs from Menlo Park to the East Bay until it reopens on Tuesday September 4 at 5 a.m.

Transportation authorities suggest taking the San Mateo Bridge or 237 instead of the Dumbarton Bridge, which is also known as SR 84, to get to the East Bay.
