Key to Awesomeness: When you visit Google.com on May 20, you may very well see artwork created by this local second grader. With the encouragement of his family, Lopez entered the Doodle 4 Google contest, which challenged kids around the country to create their own versions of the famous Google “Doodles” that dress up the company’s logo in honor of holidays and other notable events. After three weeks of work, Lopez submitted his outer space-themed Doodle, and he soon found out that he had beat out 107,000 entries to become one of two finalists in California and one of 40 nationwide.

Lopez and his mom will travel to New York later this month for the announcement of the national winner, who gets a $15,000 college scholarship, a $25,000 technology grant for his or her school and the honor of having their Doodle on the Google homepage for a day. You can help him win by going here to vote for his doodle. Act fast; voting ends on Friday.
