Happy 200th Birthday, Charles

The South San Francisco Public Library is celebrating Charles Dickens' 200th birthday with a series of public events.

The creator of such unforgettable characters as Miss Havisham and Ebenezer Scrooge turned 200 earlier this month, and the South San Francisco Public Library's main branch is paying tribute to Charles Dickens with a special book display and a series of public events.

On Friday afternoon, the library screened "Oliver!" the musical based on Dickens' "Oliver Twist."

This coming Thursday, expert Jennifer Tinonga will give a lecture on objects that have their origin in Dickens' novels, such as Christmas trees, valentines and business cards.
