The nursery specializes in growing native plants for habitat restoration projects on San Bruno Mountain, but plans to produce and sell plants to support San Bruno Mountain Watch stewardship efforts.  The nursery is a join project of San Bruno Mountain Watch and Friends of San Bruno Mountain. Both groups are dedicated to preserving the wild lands of San Bruno Mountain.

The nursery was originally established in 2001in South San Francisco, but had to close when the city planned another use for the land.  The nursery reopened in Brisbane in the fall of 2009. The construction and development of the nursery has been a community effort, with many individuals, contractors and businesses donating time and materials.
