New Farmers Market Open Now in Charter Square

The Saturday morning market, run by the West Coast Farmers Markets Association, will be year-round.

A brand new, year-round farmers market in the on Saturday mornings is now open, and everyone from locals to the market's organizers to Charter Square business owners are hopeful that it will turn out to be a big success.

The new market is run by the West Coast Farmers Market Association, which operates several farmers markets throughout the Bay Area, including at San Jose City College, Canada College, Cupertino Oaks Shopping Center and more.

"The community has been very supportive so far," said Jerry Lami, executive director of WCFMA. "We're very excited to be in Foster City."

The City of Foster City hopes this farmers market will do better than the farmers market that used to take place in the parking lot in front of the Peninsula Jewish Community Center (PJCC). The PJCC farmers market was shut down in October due to low attendance.

Lami said the new Charter Square farmers market features exciting new vendors, and new ones are signing on every week. The parking lot along Beach Park Boulevard, where the tents set up, can hold up to 30 vendors.

"We have fantastic fruit and vegetables, we're selling kettle corn, oils and vinegars  - and this week, we have our new hot dog vendor coming for the first time," Lami told Patch. "Plus, we're working on getting a snowcone vendor to start coming."

Lami said the market, which first debuted a few weeks ago on May 12, is growing in popularity as more people find out about it.

"Every week has gotten better and better and better," he said. "And the weather's been fantastic."

Lami said, eventually, the market hopes to feature live music as well, but WCFMA is still working with the City on the necessary permits.

I have been here almost every weekend since it opened, and each week there are more vendors and more variety. I recommend dropping by!
