New Officers for Old Town Association

The Historic Old Town Homeowners and Renters Association elected new officers at a Tuesday night meeting.

The Historic Old Town Homeowners and Renters Association elected four new officers at a meeting Tuesday night hosted by City Council Member Pedro Gonzalez.

"We've been inactive for a couple years or maybe more," Gonzalez said as he kicked off the nominations. "Last year we had a very bad year, and I believe it's because we need the homeowners association."

A couple dozen voting members turned out to the meeting, as well as Police Chief Michael Massoni, Mayor Kevin Mullin and Vice Mayor Richard Garbarino.

Thania Morales was unanimously elected president with no challengers.

Morales said she became interested in city policy after participating in the Citizens' Academy. She lives on Aspen Avenue and works at Specialty's Cafe & Bakery in San Francisco.

Morales said she will need her neighbors' help and suggestions.

"I have no idea what I'm getting myself into," Morales said.

Miguel Nava, a football coach at , was elected vice president, also unchallenged, even though he lives on Hillside Boulevard outside the association's boundaries.

Julia Lopez was elected treasurer and Alicia Gonzalez was elected recording secretary, both unchallenged. The posts of membership/corresponding secretary and parliamentarian remain vacant.
