El Camino High School Senior Named Youth of the Year

The Boys and Girls Clubs of North San Mateo County are recognizing local kids.

Too often, awards ceremonies are all about rich adults congratulating rich adults. But South San Francisco is bucking the trend and spotlighting local kids.

On Thursday, Jan. 24, the Boys and Girls Clubs of North San Mateo County are honoring local children with the 2nd Annual Youth of the Year Awards.

According to the Kiwanis Club, "youth are recognized for their contributions to their clubs and their communities, and for overcoming sifnificant personal challenges."

Brittany Burgo, a senior at El Camino High School, is receiving the grand honor of Youth of the Year, while nine others, including six from South San Francisco Schools, will also receive awards. 

The event will begin at 5:30 p.m. and is set to be held at the Basque Cultural Center in South San Francisco.

With three sites in South City and two in Pacifica, the Boys and Girls Clubs of North San Mateo County serve over 2,500 kids every year.
