Giants, AT&T Fill Park with Gratitude for Memorial Day

SAN FRANCISCO — This Memorial Day weekend AT&T will host over 200 Bay Area active military personnel, veterans, and their friends and family at AT&T Park. As the Giants take on the Rockies, fans will be able to extend live messages of gratitude to veterans as part of AT&T’s Love a Vet program. On Friday, AT&T will give away specially designed veteran cheer cards to the first 20,000 fans. Tickets for the event were distributed to the Palo Alto VA Medical Center and the Veterans of AT&T Employee Resource Group as part of AT&T’s commitment to veterans and military families. AT&T has a century long history of recruiting and hiring veterans as well as supporting and participating in organizations and initiatives that benefit troops. Just last month, AT&T announced a goal of hiring 5,000 veterans and their family members over the next five years as part of the Joining Forces Initiative with the White House. According to AT&T California President, Ken McNeely, AT&T focuses on recruiting veterans not only because it’s the right thing to do, but because it’s good for business. “Recruiting veterans is the right thing to do because these individuals consistently demonstrate outstanding leadership and skills that benefit our company and our customers,” said Ken McNeely, President, AT&T California. “It’s an honor for AT&T to support our veterans, and we are excited to invite them to AT&T Park this weekend to celebrate and show them gratitude.” About 60 percent of veterans who joined AT&T in 2012 are technicians. AT&T’s Velocity IP plan – which is expected to expand and enhance the company’s broadband network over the next three years – is driving technician hiring needs. Other veteran placements at AT&T include project managers, IT professionals, financial analysts, and supply chain managers. Some are also being recruited into AT&T leadership development programs. To help veterans find career opportunities, AT&T has a veteran career site which includes tools for veterans to match their military skills with AT&T jobs. AT&T has a military talent attraction manager who focuses on military recruitment. And the company has the Careers for Veterans program where AT&T Veterans provide job search advice to help thousands of newly transitioning veterans optimize their career searches For more information please visit: www.att.com/troopsupport
