Kaiser Grants For South City High and Library

On Monday Kaiser Permanente announced recipients of its grants ranging from $5,000 to $35,000 for community programs that improve health---in every way from obesity to violence.

Kaiser Permanente announced their annual Community Benefit Grant recipients yesterday, which included two South San Francisco organizations and several other north San Mateo county groups.

South San Francisco Library's Learning Wheels program and South San Francisco High School received a portion of the $610,000 in grants that the medical group awarded to 47 community nonprofts throughout San Mateo County.

Learning Wheels was awarded $9,000 for its programs that address child obesity. South City High $29,000 for its Be the Warrior program that addresses at-risk youth and violence.

“This funding will help provide a positive impact on our communities’ health,” said Kaiser Senior Vice President and Area Manager Frank Beirne. “Partnering with community based organizations is one way we help transform neighborhoods and communities into healthier places to live, work, and play." 

Grant applicants were required to address one of five health priorities: childhood obestiy, access to care, at-risk youth behavior, health of our aging population, and violence.

Kaiser's Community Benefit Advisory Board evaluated over 100 applications. 

Also among the 47 recipients were: 

  • Boys & Girls Club - Mid-Peninsula
  • Boys & Girls Club – N. San Mateo Co.
  • Daly City Peninsula Partnership Collaborative – Healthy Aging Response Team
  • Daly city Youth Health Center
  • Jefferson Union High School District
  • Pacifica Environment Family
  • South San Francisco Library – Learning Wheels
  • RotaCare – Bay Area
  • Samaritan House – Safe Harbor
  • South San Francisco High School
