City Approves Bicycle Master Plan

The city hopes to win grants for bike-friendly improvements.

The city council approved a new Bicycle Master Plan at its meeting Thursday night. The plan is meant to promote bicycle use as part of the city’s transportation system and proposes over 11 new miles of bike paths, lanes and routes.

The adoption of the plan will put the city in a better position to get government grants for bicycle improvements from agencies that prefer local governments have such a plan in place, said Councilmember Karyl Matsumoto.

Council members emphasized the need for bicycle routes east of Highway 101 during discussion.
