Change of Venue for 'Streets Alive' this Year

Things will look a little different this year for the annual "Streets Alive" festival, taking place May 6.

Mainly, the surroundings - this year's event will largely take place at instead of along downtown streets, as it has in years past.

A representative from the City of South San Francisco said the City Council made the decision for the venue change.

"There are more opportunities at Orange Park, and in case it rains, there are many indoor buildings at the park so we can move things inside," said a City staff member. "Plus, there is the skate park and other amenities at the park. We'll just be able to do a lot more there."

In light of the new venue, the name of the event has been changed to "Streets Alive! Parks Alive!"

However, many of the activities and events offerings will be the same, back by popular demand, such as Zumba, Tai Chi, line dancing, leisure walks, the preschooler bike-a-thon, basketball and soccer, recreational swimming and more. Organizers promise a variety of activities suited to all ages.

"Streets Alive! Parks Alive!" will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Orange Memorial Park at Orange Avenue and Tennis Drive, and along Centennial Way. For more information, call the City at 650-829-3800 or visit the City's website.
